Cat Quotations

“As every cat owner knows, nobody owns a cat.”
Ellen Perry Berkeley

“Before a cat will condescend
To treat you as a trusted friend,
Some little token of esteem
Is needed, like a dish of cream.”

T.S. Eliot

Cats helped or re-homed in 2013

Home -> Cats re-homed -> 2013

Here are the stories of some of the cats we have helped.

October to December

Thomas

Thomas

Thomas is around 3-4 years old and has found himself a temporary owner, who unfortunately cannot keep him.

He is very interactive and meows a lot.

This is his second stay in the cattery and he is a very nice cat.

He is vaccinated and neutered and will be micro-chipped.

Thomas has gone to live in Norfolk with friends of a neighbour. He is now living in a village with a big garden and fields to visit.

Tilly

Tilly

The owner of Tilly and Charlie below need a new home as the owner is leaving the country in July 2013 to work abroad. Tilly is 12 years old and is neutered and has been with the owner since she was 2 years old.

Tilly and Charlie are friends and do get on but are not related or inseparable so could be homed together or separately.

Tilly is a chocolate brown tortoiseshell; she is a quiet and content girl who is independent, does not need a fuss, but is very homely. She is not a great lover of laps but is happiest sitting on your shoulder or next to you on the sofa. When she gets to trust you, she can be 'licky' on your hand, with very deep gentle purrs. She rarely meows and has only recently found her voice at all!

Tilly can get spooked by loud noises, such as hoovering, like many cats do, and has had no experience of children. The owner works, so they are used to long periods on their own while she is out.

Tilly enjoys exploring outside (but was entirely indoors for the first 2 years and does not go far). Tilly and Charlie have lived as companion cats to another cat in the past, so could well be re-homed to a family with an existing cat. All in all, they are very tolerant easy-going cats who provide bundles of love and affection.

Tilly is very healthy, and has had regular flea treatments and vet checkups.

Tilly was rehomed in December 2013 with a doting family.

July to September

Assistance re-homing mother cat and kittens

There was a site over in Walworth, with a stray cat and kittens, which Cats Protection could not take in and neither could we.

The resourceful residents managed to get the kittens and the mother, although she was a bit timid.

We have loaned kitten pens, and we know that some kittens have been rehomed.

Someone took the mother cat, who now lives with another cat and 2 dogs. The new owner got her spayed recently.

So the Mother cat and kittens have been rehomed with a little bit of encouragement and equipment!

Sorry no pictures this time

Charlie

Charlie

The owner of Tilly and Charlie, was leaving the country in July 2013 to work abroad. Charlie is 13 years old and is neutered and has been with the owner since she was 3 years old.

Tilly and Charlie were friends and do get on but are not related or inseparable so could be homed together or separately.

Charlie is a fluffy ginger and white. She is gentle and friendly and will sit for strokes and cuddles for hours on your lap. She is more vocal and meows for her food and attention. She is more active, but less independent, relying more on company to stimulate her.

Charlie also gets spooked by loud noises, such as hoovering, like many cats do, and also has had no experience of children. The owner works, so she is used to long periods on her own while she is out.

Charlie enjoys exploring outside (but was entirely indoors for the first 3 years so does not go far). Tilly and Charlie have lived as companion cats to another cat in the past, so could well be re-homed to a family with an existing cat. All in all, they are very tolerant easy-going cats who provide bundles of love and affection.

Charlie is very healthy, and has had regular flea treatments and vet checkups.

We took in Charlie and Tilly as we (and several other agencies) did not manage to find a home for them before the owner left.

Charlie was rehomed in August 2013 with the help of Cats Protection and is settling down well.

Mr Miggins

Mr Miggins

Mr Miggins is a stray cat that one of our cattery customers had been seeing since the beginning of the year.

She managed to catch him a few months ago and took him to her vets to check if he was micro-chipped. They established that he was not but he was not neutered at that time.

She recently borrowed a trap from us, but this time, he would not let her near him. Eventually, he was trapped and has now been neutered.

He stayed with us. He started out behind a cupboard in the dining room, then moved to a pen, where he looked very fed up to start with. But now he is looking much more relaxed.

Mr Miggins went to his new home last week. He is a very timid cat.

We have had an update from the new owners shortly after he moved in. They like him very much, and are moving to stage 2, which is to be let out of the room he started in and let him explore around the house.

This house is in the same road he came from, and the expectation is that he will settle down well in his new home and get on with the resident cat.

Jasmine

Jasmine

Jasmine is a young black and white cat. We rehomed her kittens last year and had her speyed.

She was rehomed herself recently, but she did not settle with the resident and very playful dog.

She is a very calm and relaxed cat, as you can see from the pose!

Jasmine has been rehomed with a work colleague and her son.

George (formerly Odysseus)

Odysseus

A customer of the cattery had been trying to get Odysseus neutered for ages.

Then he was in a fight, and ended up with a bite on his neck.

He was captured and his wound was treated at the vets with antibiotics. He was also neutered.

When he first came back from the vets, he was not very well behaved, but has now decided that will get him nowhere, and is now quite friendly!

He has now been rehomed and renamed George. The new owners have sent this message and a couple of pictures.

“He has settled very well considering, he started off going behind the sofa, but you can see he has ventured out and lets us stroke him, early days, but encouraging.”

Five Kittens

Five Kittens

Five kittens have been given to us to rehome.

We have arranged for the Cats Protection to rehome them.

Mog

Mog

A customer of the cattery found a 4 month old kitten, Mog, as her then owner was in the process of abandoning her in the street with her carrier. Mog was well brought up, uses the tray and was used to being well looked after.

Mog came to us a couple of days later and she was re-homed through Cats Protection within a week, to someone who wanted a ginger cat, but was won over by Mog.

Tinka

Tinka

Tinka came to us because she was unable to cope with another cat she lived with.

The cats had lived together for some years and had never got on but recently had reached a crisis point where there was some messing and the other cat was not able to come into the house.

Tinka has settled well with us and behaved much better than she did as a boarder! The other cat is now much more settled and the owner is happy with the decision.

Tinka has been able to get a new home through the Cats Protection very quickly.

Andy

Andy

A couple in Brixton returned from their holiday to find one of their two cats was missing.

There were reports of sightings, but they were also told a cat with the same description had been run over.

Andy was discovered at a similar time but was too timid to be picked up. He was trapped in a garden and checked at the vets and turned out to be an un-neutered Tom and not the neutered and microchipped cat they had lost. Andy has now gone to live with the couple in Brixton and we are hoping he settles in well with their other cat.

January to March

Izzy

Izzy

Izzy is a 4 month old kitten found straying just after Christmas 2012.

She was taken in by another cat owner staying in their bathroom until she came to us.

She was not microchipped and notices went up to see if the owner could be found, but there was no response.

She is now vaccinated and micro-chipped.

Izzy is now settled and doing very well in her new home.

Minky

Minky

Minky will be 6 in November. She is a very small, black cat.

Minky was 1 of 5 kittens in a litter to a fairly small mother and when she was born, her back left leg was soft and the foot was upside down. The vet had originally planned to amputate the leg when Minky was 1, but decided against this as her foot had turned and although the bone is still soft, it is not causing her any pain or discomfort.

Minky also has a crooked tail. She stopped growing any bigger at about 4 months and so still very much looks like a kitten.

She is timid at first meeting people, but very soon wants to be stroked and particularly loves having between her shoulder blades scratched.

Minky has been spayed, all her jabs are up to date and she is wormed regularly. Minky is litter and cat-flap trained.

She would like a home where she can have a balance of independence and also have lots of cuddles and a fuss made of her.

Minky's owner has had to make the difficult decision to rehome her cats due to her daughter's allergies.

Following medical advice, Minky has had to have her leg amputated, but was rehomed quickly after the operation.

Jess

Jess

Jess is 8 years old. She is a short-haired black and white cat.

She originally came from a farm so she is very much an outdoors loving cat. She is quite independent but loves human attention and will stand on your foot to demand a stroke or tickle!

Jess has had all her immunisations and has been spayed and is regularly wormed. She is litter trained and cat-flap trained.

She is a playful, active cat. She is a pleasure to have about the house. Her favourite treat is cheese, she can hear the opening of a cheese packet for miles!

Jess's owner has had to make the difficult decision to rehome her cats due to her daughter's allergies.

Jess has now been rehomed and lives in Norwood. She has been joined by a three legged cat from Battersea and getting on well together.
